DTF File Preparation Guide – CreativePrints

Welcome to the official guide to CreativePrints. Proper file preparation is the key to a flawless printing result, without unpleasant and costly surprises.

1. Basic File Settings

  • Color Mode: CMYK (Required). Design in CMYK from the start to have complete control over how colors will appear in print.
  • Resolution: 300 DPI for maximum clarity and clear details.
  • File Format: PDF, TIFF or PNG (with transparency).

2. Dimensions & Printing Area

To ensure proper production, your file dimensions must follow the following:

  • Film Width: 30 cm.
  • Safe Area: 28 cm.

3. Color Fidelity (RGB vs CMYK)

⚠️ Important Note: The colors you see on your screen (RGB) may have small deviations from the final printed result on film. Screens emit light, while ink absorbs light. For maximum accuracy, make sure your file is in CMYK mode.

4. Transparency & White Base

  • Transparent Background: The background must be 100% transparent. Any white pixels in the background will be interpreted by the machine as white ink and printed.
  • Transparencies: Avoid “soft glows” or shadows with opacity below 70%. DTF software requires solid points for proper application of the white base under the color.

5. Line Thickness & Fonts

  • Minimum Thickness: The lines must be at least 1 point to ensure proper adhesion of the adhesive to the film.
  • Text: Fonts must be at least 6-8 points.
  • Outlines: Always convert texts to curves (Convert to Outlines/Paths) before exporting.

Frequently Asked Questions about Preparing DTF Files

Why does my file have to be in CMYK?;

Professional DTF printers use CMYK inks. If you send an RGB file, the conversion will be done automatically and may change your shades. With CMYK you are in control.

What resolution should the plans have?;
The ideal resolution is 300 DPI to the actual print size. Lower resolution will result in a “pixelated” print with rough edges.
What is the maximum print width at CreativePrints?;

We print on 30cm wide film, however the useful area (Safe Area) for your designs is 28cm.

What file format should I send my logo in?;

We prefer files PDF ή TIFF (CMYK) for maximum quality. Alternatively, we accept files PNG with transparent background.
